Our Story
The Nelsonville Food Cupboard was founded in 1989 and has continuously operated since that time, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generous support of our community of donors, near and far.
Bob Sheskey became the executive director of the Cupboard soon after its inception, a role he continued for the next 25 years. Bob was born in Buchtel in 1924, attended Buchtel High School, and served in the army in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII. At the end of the war, Bob returned to Southeastern Ohio, becoming a community leader and an advocate for those in need. He is pictured here with his wife, Joanne, at an athletics award banquet in the 1960s.
The Nelsonville Food Cupboard is a member of the Southeast Ohio Regional Food Bank, and we are grateful for the support of their staff in helping us provide food to those in need. The food bank is also a member of Feeding America, a nonprofit United States hunger relief organization.
